Floating a plan for the year ahead
And a birthday gift
Hey there,
I’m back.
I’m still not sure what ‘regular’ will look like here, but I know I just needed to start writing again.
At the moment, I’m thinking:
Seasonal series that align with my upcoming yoga retreats
In between, a mix of pieces…
Articles on our adventures (we’re planning more trips this year after a quieter 2025)
A monthly wrap up of what I’ve been loving, reading, learning
Plus, regular breaks throughout the year to ensure this is sustainable for me writing and you as readers.
Before I get planning for the year ahead, I’d love your input and I have some questions at the end to help prompt your thinking.
But more on that in a moment. This week is also my birthday weekend. And I have some reflections to share on the past 12 months.
My 33rd year held a lot. Marriage, starting a new job, the passing of my dear Percy, our honeymoon, injuries, our first year of home ownership, settling into a new community, running seasonal one day yoga retreats, stepping away from weekly teaching at Jeeva, and a lot of growth in between.
It was a year of hard work.
Not just in a career sense, but in establishing a new phase of life. Not so much about being newly married, but about building a home and a rhythm in Gawler.
Head down, bum up (I think this is a very Australian phrase for working hard). Getting stuck into the house. Learning a new role. Both of us working weekends.
This year is different.
We have our weekends back, and we’ve been more intentional about how we use them. At the start of the year, we made a bingo card of things we want to do together. Some are practical (like finally finishing the painting), others are simple (trying somewhere new each month, even if it’s just a meal or a local walk), and some are just for us (climbing somewhere new).
I also realised how much I missed having space to read, and time for climbing trips. So this year, I’m making that a priority. More time to myself. More time outdoors. At least one outdoor climbing weekend each month.
As I write this, I’m aware it might sound like we have a lot of free time. And in some ways, we do. But that’s something we’ve actively chosen. We have created that time for ourselves (and to both work full time with side hustles and committee positions) by choosing not to have children at this point in time.
Do others feel the need to justify how they use their free time, and the choices they’ve made to preserve it?
That’s probably a subject for another day, but it is a choice that does give me the time to be here. And to be able to offer to help busy people especially women, kids or no kids, find a way to practise yoga that feels simple, supportive, and consistent.
The seasonal series I’ve shared before (Winter Yin, Rest, 40 Days of Yoga) have all been about helping you create a practice that fits into real life. Into your most hectic of days. Not just the perfect days.
I think that’s what I want to keep building here. Helping busy people practise yoga, Iith a bit of life, reflection, and climbing adventures alongside it.
So, I’d love to know:
What do you want from this newsletter?
What would actually be useful or interesting for you to read?
And what topics would you want explored in the next seasonal series?
Let me know by replying to this email, in the comments below, or sending me a message on Instagram.
